My Memorable Day

My Memorable Day

I opened my eyes and was immediately blinded by light. I figured I had forgotten to close the shades. I had been exhausted. After my eyes adjusted to the light, I looked at the clock. It read 7:01. I groaned and tried to fall back to sleep. Then I realized it was Monday and that I still had to finish writing the last of my student’s report cards. What a nasty thought. Still, I put on a blue shirt and a nice black skirt. I put on my new black boots and headed downstairs. I ate a bowl of Cheerios because we were all out of Wheaties. I had just begun to read the sports page, when a boy from the house across the street threw a rock through the window. That boy is an abomination, but his parents are blind. I cursed and started feeding my dog, Spreckels, when something a whole lot larger came through the window. A three-ton moving truck crashed strait through the wall! I barely had enough time to grab Spreckels and jump out of the way. The driver came out to apologize and make sure that I wasn’t hurt. There were some cuts and bruises, and Spreckels was whimpering, but there was no lasting damage. Except to my house. The kitchen was in tatters and half the ceiling had caved in. The driver helped me up and apologized over and over again. I kept telling him it was all right. I called the police and the insurance company and did about 10 pages of paperwork, but by 7:45 it was all worked out. Despite all these eventful happenings, I still happened to notice that my carpool was late. After 5 minutes, Ms. Evered drove up in her red convertible, and we headed to school, while I tried to explain what had happened to my house.
