The Girl Who was on Fire
is beautiful.
is wondrous.
is running, running to escape
that very fate.
the people love it.
the irony is so exquisite.
sweeter than even her role
as star-crossed lover.
Ah, the flames,
caressing as they singe.
And oh, the people,
rapt, their eyes glued to the screen
ooing and ahhing at the fire works display
cringing and shouting and cursing and laughing and tzking
and crying and grinning and fainting and cawing and
growling and admonishing and encouraging and discouraging
and frowning and
silent.
district 12 is silent
as a grave.

“The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins
